In 2020, Austin Child Guidance Center provided 3,356 hours of teletherapy, with 96 percent of funding coming from grants and fundraising.

For more than 70 years, the Austin Child Guidance Center (ACGC) has provided accessible, high-quality mental health therapy to children and families in Central Texas. ACGC services hundreds of families each year, many of which have low income and face other significant challenges on a day-to-day basis, providing a variety of services that include individual and family therapy, group therapy, psychological assessment, and psychiatric evaluation and medication management.

ACGC focuses on helping treat children with various conditions, including anxiety disorders, externalizing disorders, family challenges, mood disorders, and psychological and physical trauma. With its individual/family therapy, ACGC therapists focus on a family systems model which views the child within the context of his or her family system, where each member has a role and influence on every other member. ACGC therapists work closely with each family to determine the goals, and a develop a treatment plan.

Through a grant awarded by the Maximus Foundation, ACGC provided 53 children, family members, and caregivers with care and treatment services and enabled another 43 parents and caregivers to participate in free virtual workshops. The care and treatment services provided included 230 individual therapy sessions, 112 family therapy sessions, 41 group therapy sessions, 17 diagnostic evaluations, seven psychiatric evaluations, two walk-in clinic sessions, and three caregiver workshop sessions. The staff at ACGC ensured that they received services, even through a global pandemic and traumatic winter storm, allowing them to process their experiences and begin healing.

Giving back to the communities we serve

The Maximus Foundation is one of the ways our employees are doing something greater together. Established by the Maximus Board of Directors in 2000, the Maximus Foundation is an independent, employee-led, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Employee donors pool their contributions together through the Foundation, increasing their community impact by supporting nonprofits that serve the same communities we serve every day. Employee donors double their impact through Maximus’ dollar-for-dollar matching pledge and make their voices heard by nominating and voting for future grantee partners.
