Maximus Foundation celebrates 25 years of impact with $2 million in nonprofit grants

This year marks 25 years since the founding of the Maximus Foundation (“Foundation”), a journey that began in 2000 with a mission to partner with communities and strengthen the social fabric across the nation. Over the past quarter-century, the Foundation has awarded more than 3,000 grants totaling over $17 million to nonprofits tackling some of society’s toughest challenges — from housing insecurity and youth mentorship to disaster relief, healthcare access, and food security.
Funded by Maximus and its staff, the Foundation’s support has reached across the country, driven by an unwavering belief that lasting change is built through trust, collaboration, and sustained support of community-led solutions.
Stepping boldly into the next 25 years
To mark this anniversary milestone, the Foundation will make grants up to $2 million to fuel transformative, long-term impact. Guided by feedback from Maximus staff, the Foundation’s giving this year prioritizes food insecurity and access — connecting resources to the organizations that are changing lives on the front lines of hunger and poverty.
Supporting transformation
In 2025, ten nonprofit organizations have been awarded three-year Impact Grants of $150,000 each to deepen their impact and scale innovative solutions to food access. Each was chosen with direct input from Maximus staff — ensuring the funding reflects real community insight and on-the-ground needs.
Additionally, 50 nonprofits addressing a range of topics such as reducing homelessness, inspiring youth potential, and promoting healthcare access will each receive $10,000 grants to advance community-driven solutions.
A milestone with purpose
“This new chapter is about more than funding programs – it’s about fueling transformational impact as partners,” said Dr. Arvenita Washington Cherry, President and Chairperson, Maximus Foundation. “By listening to the voices of our colleagues and partnering with organizations addressing urgent needs, we are helping remove systemic barriers and creating pathways to healthier, more resilient communities.”
“With these Impact Grants, we’re supporting locally-led solutions that have real impact in their communities,” said Bruce Caswell, President and CEO, Maximus. “When we connect the passion of Maximus colleagues across our workforce with the expertise of frontline nonprofits, we create the conditions for real and sustainable transformation to provide food access.”
Looking forward
As the Maximus Foundation steps into its next 25 years, it remains committed to tackling pressing social challenges with the same core principles that have defined its first quarter-century: trust in community wisdom, partnership over charity, and support for solutions that build resilience for generations to come.
