In the wake of COVID-19 and doctor office closures, child vaccination rates fell to alarmingly low levels across the country. According to the Virginia chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a recent survey of 100 Virginia pediatricians showed a 30 percent decrease in infant vaccination rates since early March. To address the critical need for child immunization, Maximus partnered with Trusted Doctors and our new health insurance provider, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, to hold a free vaccination and well-child visit clinic.

Trusted Doctors is supported by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to help people find carefully reviewed doctors without advertising bias. With their help, we partnered with Fairfax Pediatric Associates, a well-respected physician group in Fairfax, Virginia. With social distance protocols in mind, our partners contacted more than 1,000 of its members leading up to the event to coordinate and schedule the vaccination appointment times to help address healthcare gaps.

On the morning of the event, our employees, Dan Blitz and Aubrey Lucy, kindly delivered and helped set up the Company’s contributed items to the clinic event. Maximus provided tents, sanitation stations, heaters, and other operational items to provide a safe and comfortable environment for all volunteers, workers, and participants. Anthem provided volunteer staff, a grant to fund Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to support Trusted Doctors’ greater efforts, and two Chromebooks to raffle off to patients. DentaQuest and CareMore also participated in the event.

With the combined efforts of all our partners, the clinic successfully delivered 189 flu shots and provided 20 well-visits.
