Named WashingtonExec Top CFO to Watch in 2022
WashingtonExec has named Chief Financial Officer David Mutryn one of its Top CFOs to watch in 2022.
Mutryn, who has worked for Maximus for over five years, said he was honored for the recognition, but he credits his team for the successes referenced in his nomination.
"I'm honored to be recognized, but I owe it to the team here that we have been doing things as a company that are worthy of recognition by the industry," he said.
Having grown up in the DC area, Mutryn said he chose to work in government contracting early in his career. After working for a public accounting firm, he opted to join the Finance team at a government services company.
"In the corporate finance world, there is less of a clear career path than in large accounting or consulting firms," he said. "I often advise people that they need to be their own career coach and take the initiative to look for opportunities to gain new experiences. You should be willing to take on projects that you might not be comfortable with in order to stretch yourself and grow."
Mutryn was promoted to CFO in December 2021 after serving as a Senior Vice President of Finance and Corporate Controller. He said he enjoys serving as CFO because the position allows him to work on different teams.
"I'm part of the executive team, so I'm in conversations about things that affect the whole company," Mutryn said. "I also have my finance and accounting team and many other smaller teams within the organization. There is never a dull moment! I also enjoy representing Maximus with our banks and investors."
He added that the people he works with are what he enjoys most about his job.
"The people at Maximus – the leadership team in particular – are really great people and we’ve formed a good chemistry," he said. “And I can’t say enough about how grateful I am for my incredible Finance and Accounting leadership team.”
