New Illinois state-based marketplace website enhances consumer experience

We recently supported a major milestone in Illinois as the state transitioned from the federal health insurance marketplace (HealthCare.gov) to a state-based marketplace (SBM). We helped design, build, and launch the Get Covered Illinois website through a new contract with the state.

We designed the new website to help consumers easily compare health plans, check for financial assistance, and enroll in coverage tailored to their needs. Our human-centered design approach resulted in a modern, accessible, and user-friendly experience.

In just five months, we delivered a fully functional, accessible website — ahead of open enrollment, and within the state-managed platform. The new website serves as the digital front door to access health and dental plans tailored to the needs of Illinois residents, helping consumers transition smoothly between Medicaid and Qualified Health Plans.

The successful launch builds on our decades-long partnership with the State of Illinois, where we currently serve as the Medicaid enrollment broker and manage the state’s award-winning Medicaid managed care enrollment website. Our familiarity with the needs and preferences of residents, combined with our deep expertise in digital accessibility and health insurance literacy, shaped the design and development of the new Get Covered Illinois site.

Nationally, we support nine state-based marketplaces, including California, Maine, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Washington, D.C., and operate over 65 award-winning websites for state and local government programs, helping people seamlessly connect to the services they need.
