Medicaid leaders are balancing growing demands with limited resources and little room for disruption. At NAMD, five priorities stood out:
- Community engagement is moving into operations. States need to manage outreach, verification, exemptions, calls, and appeals while balancing capacity.
- Every investment must prove its value. States need solutions that address immediate needs, reduce burden, leverage existing infrastructure, and deliver measurable return on investment.
- Program integrity remains a critical priority. States are seeking integrated approaches that improve accuracy, reduce fraud, waste, and abuse, control costs, and strengthen accountability.
- Modernization is becoming more pragmatic. AI, automation, and interoperability need to solve real operational challenges, not simply introduce new technology.
- Funding must translate into results. From rural health transformation to 1115 demonstrations, states need to connect investments to meaningful improvements in access and outcomes.
The common thread: States need practical ways to make progress without adding unnecessary cost, burden, or complexity.
